Purchasing Specialist, Non-Raw Material

As a Commodity Specialist, your role will be visible across multiple levels of the company. This position will report to the Director of Procurement for Non-Raw Materials and will be based in Highland Heights, KY.  This position will manage assigned Commodities - responsible for strategy development, material trend analysis, and vendor negotiations. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Duties include but are not limited to - creating and approving POs for multiple locations, maintaining master data in ERP systems and monthly/quarterly reporting
  • Interface with internal customers including logistics, operations, finance and IT to understand their needs and requirements. 
  • Work directly with assigned external suppliers; preparing proposals, quotes, and agreements that create benefits for our Company. 
  • Develop process improvements to reduce our overall costs
  • Ensure year-to-year cost improvements for assigned commodity/spend category
  • Evaluate supplier performance and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and analyse market trends, report key trends
  • Assist with the annual budget in forecasting material(s) cost
  • Travel when required – approximately 10-15% of work days – to Company or vendor locations.





  • Energetic and motivated with a strong sense of urgency
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, Finance or Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in Supply Chain Management
  • Experience in a manufacturing industry
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in an ERP system and in Excel



  • 3-5 years of procurement or sourcing experience
  • Professional certification (such as C.P.M., CPSM, CPIM)
  • Demonstrated project management/leadership skills
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Experience working in SAP – MM/Purchasing module


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Works out of a normal office environment with standard office equipment available.
  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
  • Employee will regularly be required to lift and carry objects of 10-25 pounds as needed.
  • Employee will occasionally be required to lift and carry objects of 25-30 pounds as needed.
  • Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
  • This role is not typically exposed to adverse environmental conditions, except excessive eye strain and possible lifting injuries
  • When travel is necessary, will be exposed to typical travel environment and surroundings
