Overview:

Product Engineering Lab Test Technician is responsible for providing engineering test coordination and execution for all programs supporting development wire and cable, harness and ignition systems, coil systems, material development, supplier development and "third party" testing for Prysmian Group facilities.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding and performing all tasks and responsibilities according to the specific Job Safety Practices (JSP) established for this job.
  • Responsible for safety and housekeeping procedures and for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Responsible for adhering to all General Cable Corporation health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations, including our hazardous waste handling if designated and trained to do so.
  • With minimal supervision, works from specifications to develop or modify testing systems and or configurations.  Assists with and executes planning, design, coding, benchmarking testing, validation testing, analysis, debugging, training and documentation/presentation of programs. 
  • Review and determine testing needs for programs.  Setup and perform program testing in regards to the specification and product/program prints.
  • Designs, coordinates and acquires testing fixtures and new testing equipment to support new or modified program test criteria.
  • Ability to document testing procedures and results in various formats (excel, word) within technical language of the specification.
  • Assists with prototype building of wire and cable (prototype line) and select wire harness.  Ability to assist with new and/or modified laboratory equipment for testing and/or prototypes.
  • Provides testing technical support in cross functional teams as required.
  • Maintain test equipment;  perform and/or coordinate trouble-shooting to determine cause of failure and coordinate repairs.
  • Understanding and operation of mechanical, electrical (including high voltage), chemical and analytical equipment with limited support interfacing.  Examples:  Instron, Dielectric chambers, Flex chambers, Thermal Shock chambers, Thermal chambers, Chemical Titrations, Vibration Chambers.
  • Designs and/or assists with development of the product design and functionality of products, costs avoidance program, cost reduction programs, process and product improvement programs
  • Implements the product design within the schedule and budget parameters
  • Identifies any problems with the implementation or available resources that may affect the schedule or budget and communicates such problems accordingly
  • Analyzes the risks of a new design or process and communicates results to management or personnel as required
  • Provides support to manufacturing to ensure product is fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design
  • Develops and maintains procedures and processes that support core machine technologies
  • Interfaces with others in the organization and customers to jointly determine customer needs and solutions
  • Responsible for initiating actions to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities, identifying and recording problems relating to product quality, processes, and quality systems, as well as controlling further processing or delivery of nonconforming product
  • Responsible for adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies and regulations
  • Coordinates laboratory testing for internal and external programs
  • Collaborate with personnel associated with PPAP’s, both customer and supplier, for proper qualification

  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Verbal communication and listening skills appropriate for manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical instructions
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks and activities with the capability of making plan adjustments spontaneously to maximize safety, quality and machine efficiency
  • Excellent physical science and math skills
  • Able to understand and follow verbal or written instructions
  • Able to read and interpret data and information from written or printed documents, computer monitors or other devices
  • Able to write legibly and record information accurately
  • Able to work independently or collaborate with other Team Members as necessary to balance work load
  • Excellent testing equipment understanding and practical application
  • Mechanical and electrical principle understanding and practical application
  • Interruption of multiple print and specifications

 

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED preferred
  2. Proficient math skills
  3. Good reading and listening skills
  4. Legible hand writing
  5. Prefer knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word software
  6. Prefer experience in CAD System, automation controls, database programming


Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Corrected vision to 20/20 being able to clearly see objects at long or short distances and be able to see details in small objects and read fine print
  • Able to visually distinguish colors accurately
  • Occasional manual lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Able to lift and carry by hand various tools, materials, containers usually small to moderate in size
  • Active walking with irregular periods of standing and infrequent sitting or leaning
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment required for job duties and required tasks
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Frequent tasks involving walking, standing, squatting and bending are required
  • Work overtime hours as scheduled.  Extra or extended shifts may be required daily or weekly
