Position Summary: Reporting to the Americas Director of Sales, this position is responsible for managing customer accounts from a sales and business development perspective.  This includes actively pursuing new business opportunities and representing Draka/Prestolite Automotive with current and prospective customers in the North American automotive and transportation markets.

Job Objectives/Initiatives:

  • Identify new market/customer opportunities in the automotive and truck and bus wire & cable market.
  • Strategically target and close on new business opportunities with current and new customers.
  • Perform all sales-related functions with purchasing, engineering, quality and finance for all managed customers and General Cable locations.
  • Manage sales accounts to meet or exceed annual financial plan objectives and growth goals.
  • Visit customer locations as needed to support the business and maintain good relationships.
  • Visit Prysmian manufacturing facilities as needed to communicate customer expectations, report progress activities, and work closely with strategic business unit team.
  • Supports program management and new launch activities for New Product Introductions.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of customer organizations, as well as their technical and commercial needs.
  • Work closely with technical partners to identify and strategically target new business opportunities.
  • Communicate customer activities and sales activity to management through both verbal and written weekly/monthly reports.
  • Facilitate periodic status meetings (internal/external) with key disciplines to ensure business teams are focused to meet both customer and corporate objectives.
  • Gather and provide competitive feedback concerning activities within the assigned sales and market area.
  • Provide sales input to support the annual financial plan (budget) and sales forecasts with responsibility for tons and contribution margin.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree required, MBA a plus.
  • Min. 5 years of automotive and/or technical sales experience, preferably in the Wire and Cable or Wire Harness Industry.
  • Automotive Industry contacts and knowledge of OEM procurement and Tier I systems and procedures.
  • Electrical experience a plus, including strong understanding of electrification trends in transportation markets
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional negotiation and “closing” skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office required.
  • Knowledge of and participation in industry associations and cable standards committees including SAE, ISO, USCAR, TMC and ABYC is a plus.
  • GM, Ford and/or FCA background a plus.

  • High energy and urgency level to maintain fast-paced environment that includes strong focus on new business generation and new product validation.
  • Good communication skills and high motivation level with ability to have a global perspective both internally and externally with focus on teamwork and collaboration
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common document associated with Specifications, Purchase Orders and Customer contracts
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, engineering teams and plant personnel to both internal and external customers
  • Critical and analytical thinking ability including the ability to respond to common inquiries or issues from customers, or members of the business teams
  • Possesses both leadership and managerial skills and ability thrive in both short and long sales cycle environment
  • Comprehensive business skills - understands business principles/practices, including solid planning, forecasting, budgeting and administrative skills
  • Competitive, creative, tactical and aggressive in thinking and style- can think outside of the box with a drive to “win”
  • Good corporate image and strong brand ambassador for Draka/Prestolite Automotive
  • Willing to travel
